AI Watermarking — AI Glossary

Techniques that embed a detectable signal in AI-generated content to enable provenance attribution. Image watermarking works similarly in pixel space.

Overview

LLM watermarking modifies the token sampling distribution to embed a cryptographic signal (e.g. SynthID, LDGM). Image watermarking works similarly in pixel space. Detection can verify AI origin without access to the generation system. Robustness to paraphrase attacks is the main challenge.
