Overview
Role prompting ('You are a senior software engineer…') shifts the model's output distribution toward domain-appropriate language, tone, and knowledge. Empirically improves benchmark performance on coding, legal, and medical tasks when the role is domain-relevant. Most effective in the system message rather than the user turn.
